ART IN THE CITY: COPENHAGEN

We want to celebrate art around the world by asking our MUNTHE muses what art means to them and how it is reflected in the city they live in. That’s why we have started a monthly concept on our social media platforms called ‘Art in the City’.

I n this month’s edition, our Danish muse Amalie Nielsen, takes us through her favourite art galleries and museums in her city, Copenhagen.

What are your favourite art spots in Copenhagen and why?

Louisiana:

Amazing place for both architecture and art. A full experience to visit and see the different artists chosen to show.

I like to come here as the whole space has so much to offer - usually I will go by my favorites like the diving board and then focus on the main exhibition.

The shop has a lot of cool design pieces and is a great way to check out designers. It’s hard not to leave without a little something - the posters are my guilty pleasure to collect.

The Finn Juhl House:

Architecture at its best, gives you a feeling of home and classic design. Inspiration with colors, shapes and materials.

Walking around the nature area here is such an iconic scene. Take a rest in the garden around Ordrupgaard.

Sommer Canteen:

The perfect little stop for a lunch and coffee in between museum and art.

The whole place is well decorated with beautiful art and a mix of old school and new designs.

If time for a dip in the ocean this is also a good spot!

Arne Jacobsen Gas Station:

The known designer Arne Jacobsen designed a gas station where a cafè moved in - it’s a perfect stop by the ocean to view the cool shapes of the gas station.

Don’t leave without an ice cream - a perfect way to end the day!

What is your favourite piece of art in Copenhagen?

I tend to change around as art is a way of getting inspiration for me. Right now I love the diving board in Louisiana, for me it’s a way of looking forward when I’m stuck - there’s always a way forward.
