MUNTHE - THE JOURNEY

It has always been core to the MUNTHE brand to constantly reflect on our role in the world. As a fashion brand, we acknowledge that our industry is not inherently sustainable. However, I believe that by using our brand as a powerful platform we can initiate small changes that will accumulate into bigger ones over time.

We believe that we are on a never-ending journey where we constantly need to explore and evaluate how to best invest in progress. We constantly need to take an honest look at all aspects of our production from choosing fabric to continued oversight and transparency in the working environment, for our employees and with suppliers. Ultimately, this journey is also about unlocking the power and potential of women – an issue that has always been deeply important to me.

Our first ESG annual summery report was published in 2024. You can find it at the bottom of the list next to this paragraph. Here you can also read more about MUNTHE’s guiding principles. I hope you will enjoy being a part of MUNTHE's journey.

FEMALE EMPOWERMENT

Inequality between genders is still holding many girls and women back. Women are paid less, carry a bigger burden of unpaid domestic and care work and face less financial security. Consequently, their ability to determine own choices, and their right to influence social change is weakened.

At MUNTHE, we genuinely believe that by realizing the potential of women we can positively change the way we live! That is why we relentlessly continue to use our brand as a platform to support girls and women so together we can foster a more respectful, prosperous and appreciative world.

100% FEMALE FOUNDED AND OWNED

Naja Munthe founded the brand back in 1994. After finished the Danish Design School, she wanted to find a way to express her love for creativity, art, fashion, and her entrepreneurial mindset. Creating MUNTHE fulfilled this passion – and today, Naja is the sole owner and Creative Director of MUNTHE.

SOCIAL CHARITIES FOR FEMALE EMPOWERMENT 2024

As we continue to expand our horizons, we recognize the broader impact of our actions. Local events can have global consequences, which is why we take our social responsibility seriously.

At MUNTHE, caring for others has always been at our core. We believe that every action matters, and we feel a deep responsibility to collaborate with individuals and organizations to support both national and international communities.
Starting in 2025, MUNTHE will donate 10% of its pre-tax profits to women's initiatives that drive meaningful change.

MUNTHE ART MONDAY

Women have long faced inequality in the art world, and despite progress, they remain significantly underrepresented and undervalued in museums, galleries, and auction houses. While women comprise 51% of all visual artists today, a substantial disparity persists, 78% of galleries continue to represent more men than women, according to the National Museum of Women in the Arts. (source).

At MUNTHE, we believe it is essential to amplify female voices in the art world. Our commitment extends to showcasing talented women artists while shedding light on the persistent gender imbalance in the industry. Through our Art Monday program, we feature a new artist and women within the arts each week, sharing their story and work through an exclusive interview.

TRANSPARENCY
SHARING TRANSITION FOR THE MUNTHE HANGTAG LABELING

At MUNTHE, we are committed to clear and accurate communication. As we continue to evolve, we have recognized that our previous hangtags no longer align with our updated standards. Featuring a green logo and the title "MUNTHE MORE RESPONSIBLE" these tags have been discontinued to ensure consistency in our messaging. However, due to the design and production process occurring a year in advance, hangtags with the discontinued green labeling may still appear until September 2025.

PRODUCTION
COMPLYING TO OUR CODE OF CONDUCT

Our Code of Conduct describes and sets out the ethical principles of the business carried out and conducted with MUNTHE. Our Code of Conduct is made to make sure that there are clear processes in place with our suppliers for preventing and addressing adverse impacts on human and labor rights, the environment, including climate, anti-corruption, and chemical restrictions.

We use this Code of Conduct to support us in selecting and retaining business partners who share our commitments within production as defined by internationally agreed conventions, standards, and guidelines. All our suppliers and their subcontractors must sign and comply.

AUDITING TIER 1 SUPPLIERS ONCE A YEAR

We or third-party auditors visit our Tier 1 suppliers once a year to develop new collections, understanding how to collaborate and to follow up on our mutual goals. We have independent inspectors making unannounced and semi-announced visits to our suppliers, making sure that they comply with either the international SMETA or BCSI regulations. SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit) is one of the most widely used ethical audit formats in the world, developed by Sedex (Supplier Ethical Data Exchange), while BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative) is a social auditing system developed by Amfori. Through internationally recognized frameworks, they both assess working conditions, health & safety, environmental performance, and business ethics in supply chains, while adhering to local laws and recognizing cultural norms for the different regions.

MAXIMIZING TRANSPORT BY LAND AND SEA

All collections are actively planned around substituting air transport, when possible, for land and sea. MUNTHE always avoids partaking in transportation across Russia.
